1. Check the server and path for firmware update in the Web User Interface.
2. Reset the gateway by a long keypress on the button on the back of the gateway.
The handsets will de-register from the gateway and will automatically register to the gateway again. The gateway will search for the firmware with the same version as the gateway to upgrade handsets.

Trouble in gateway:

If the gateway does not find the version for the handsetss in the given path, it will try and try until the path changes to a path containing the version.

Trouble in handsets:

If the handset does not automatically register, remove the battery from the handset, reinsert it and power the handset on. The handset should at some point show un-registered. If not, you can force a deregistration by pressing the '0'-key on the keypad for > 10 minutes. Then remove the battery and replace it again.

How To Use IPEI Matching

IPEI means "International Portable Equipment Identity" and is a number, that identifies every single device.

Caution! Warning!
Using IPEI-Matching the incorrect way may lead to strange behaviour like, handsets deregistration or connection loss! IPEI matching is only required if you use mass-deployment (e.g. carrier usage), in this case you can make sure that a new handset gets a specific "handset Number".
snom strongly recommends not to use it/play around with these settings if not urgently required!

The way MatchIPEI works:

1. Enable Match IPEI in the Web User Interface: "Advanced" > Section "Security" > "Match IPEI to HS Number: Disable".
2. Below type in all IPEI numbers for the handsets in the corresponding handset spaces.
Web User Interface > Advanced > Match IPEI to HS Number

3. Turn off all handsets and reboot the gateway by pressing the reset button to enable registration mode.

Note: V1.11 will startup with enabled registration mode if Match IPEI is enabled and will be active for at least 5 minutes.

4. Turn on one handset at a time which is supposed to be registered on the gateway.

Note: If the handset was registered on the gateway before, it will be deregistered and it will need to register again.

5. Place the handset in the charger.
6. When one handset is correctly registered, then turn on the next handset.
7. Repeat step 4-6 until all handsets are registered.

Do not change the handset's IPEI settings on the Web User Interface after this procedure. Else the handset will be deregistered at next reboot of the gateway.

Note: V1.07 has a minor bug: The handsets will not get the deregistered information, if they are powered on during rebooting the gateway. The registration mode is neither automatically reactivated in V1.07. Press the reset button to register the handset again.

What Network Settings Means

NAT provisioning, allows configuration of features for resolving of the NAT - Network Address Translation. These features enable interoperability with most types of routers; see section “NAT provisioning” for further description. DHCP, allows changes in protocol for getting a dynamic IP address. Virtual LAN, specifies the Virtual LAN ID and the User priority. IP Mode, specifies using dynamic (DHCP) or static IP address for your snom m3 VoIP phone. IP address, if using DHCP empty. Only write in, when you use static IP address. Subnet mask, if using DHCP, empty. Only write in, when you use static IP address. DNS server, if using DHCP, empty. Only write in the DNS server address of your Internet service provider, when you use static IP address. (DNS = Dynamic Name Server) Default gateway, if using DHCP, empty. Write in the IP address of your router, when you use static IP address.

NaT Provisioning

If the phone is located behind a router, some features in the gateway of the snom m3 must be set in order to let the SIP service provider reach the VoIP phone over the router.

This phone includes the following three features: STUN, RPORT and SIP-ALG circumvention Which features to select depends on the used router.

This phone provides a set of predefined configuration templates, namely:

Configuration 1, used when the SIP phone is located behind a router.

Configuration 2, used when the SIP phone is located behind a symmetric router.

Configuration 3, used when the SIP phone has a public IP address or it is located behind a SIP aware router and you wish to utilize the routers SIP aware capabilities.

Configuration 4, used when the SIP phone is located behind a SIP aware router and you wish to circumvent the routers SIP aware capabilities Manual, used, in case profile 1..4 are not sufficient

How To Change the Predefined NaT Configuration

NAT configuration can be changed to one of the predefined configurations (recommended)

SIP Port, selects the source port of incoming SIP traffic from SIP Provider. By selecting a non-standard SIP port - different from 5060 - , SIP ALG in some routers can be circumvented

How To Change The IP Mode

The snom m3 use as default IP Mode dynamic. IP addresses with Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol - DHCP, are easier to handle for the most users. This means that your broadband modem or router assigns a IP address to the snom m3, each time you turn on the phone. • If prompted to reset gateway, confirm with the Yes key.

In case you have changed the IP Mode to static, you must entry information about IP address, Subnet mask, DNS server and Default gateway. This information is part of the network information you received from your administrator or from a computer in your local network, but no network device or VoIP phone should have the same IP Address in your local network, otherwise the communication could be disturbed.

Note: On some routers port forwarding must be enabled for the snom m3 to work properly If you use port forwarding, all incoming traffic is forwarded to an internal IP address that you specify, and you must ensure that the router always assigns the same IP address to the snom m3. For more information, refer to your router user manual.

How To Disable StUN

Each handset registered to a gateway can be assigned to call groups, allowing incoming calls to be routed to multiple users within a specific call group, and a default line for outgoing calls. Up to eight SIP registrations (identities) per gateway at up to eight different SIP servers/registrars are possible.

Configuring Call Groups and Default Line using the Configuration File

Caution!
IPEI Matching can cause damage to the configuration of your phones.
Only use in case, that there is no other way to configure the device.

Each handset has a unique International Portable Equipment Identity (IPEI). This IPEI can be used to specifiy in the configuration files which handsets are allowed to connect to the gateway. To obtain the IPEI, press the OK key and select the Settings icon. Select Handset ID and press the OK key. The IPEI will be shown on the display, for example IPEI: 030434127232.

  1. In the configuration file, enable IPEI matching by changing the default to 1: %DECT_SUBS_MATCH_IPEI%:1
  2. Define the IPEI value allowed for handset #1. Using the above example IPEI: %DECT_SUBS_1%:"030434127232"
  3. Specify the call group for the handset: %CALL_GROUPS1%:"1"
Example: You want VoIP lines 1 and 2 to ring on handset #1. The setting is %CALL_GROUPS1%:"1,2".
  1. Set the default line type for the incoming line to VOIP: %USER_PRIMARY_LINE_PP1%:1
  2. Set the default outgoing VOIP line: %USER_VOIP_LINE_PP1%:1
  3. Reset the gateway to have changes take effect.

Handset and Gateway Security

To prevent unauthorized setting changes, the handset registration at the gateway can be protected by a 4-digit access code/PIN code. The default setting is 0000.

NOTE: When several gateways are set up within each other’s range it is necessary to set individual access codes/PIN codes for each one to prevent handsets from registering to the wrong gateway.

Set/Change PIN:

On the handset

  1. Select Settings / System Settings. Enter access code/PIN codeand press the OK key. Select Access Code and press the OK key.
  2. Enter the new 4-digit PIN, press the OK key, and confirm with the function key Yes when prompted by the display.
  3. Reset the gateway.

On the web user interface

  1. Open the gateway’s web user interface.
  2. Open the Advanced settings page. In the Security section enter the new 4-digit access code/PIN code in the AC Code field.
  3. Press Save and Reboot.

In the configuration file

  1. Change the value of parameter %AC_CODE%. The access code/PIN code must be given as 4 binary coded decimals (BCDs). For example, if you want the new PIN to read 8579 the new setting would be:
%AC_CODE%:0x85,0x79
  1. Reset the gateway after changing the setting.

Firmware Update Error Codes
