Basic Configuration

This section provides a Quick Start Guide for configuring snom 3xx phones for SIPGear PBX.

  • Begin by creating an extension on the SIPGear PBX and select Generic SIP as the Device type.

  • Logon to the phone from your web-browser by entering the IP address of the phone. You will find the IP address by pressing the Help button on the phone followed by the function key under the IPAdr string in the display.
  • The first page displayed when you enter the web interface of the phone is the Home page. You should not change any parameter here, navigate to Identity 1 page.

Display name: Enter the Display name you wish to have for this phone, e.g Urban. This will be the name that other phones connected to the PBX will see when you call them.

Account: Enter the SIP extension/username you wish to have for this phone, e.g 608.

Password: Enter the SIP password for this phone, e.g. mypassword.

Registrar: Enter the local IP Address of the SIPGear PBX, e.g. 192.168.10.130.

Outbound Proxy: Enter the local IP adress of the SIPGear PBX, e.g. 192.168.10.130.

Authentication Username: By default the SIPGear installation wizard assigns the same Authentication username as the extension number, e.g. 608.

Mailbox: The default extension for accessing the SIPGear general voicemail system is 500. After that the user needs to press his/her extension number e.g. 608 to access his/her own mailbox. To create a shortcut via the “ Retrieve” button on the phone, enter the number (default 500) to the SIPGear mailbox-system.

  • By default the snom phone is set to have Call Waiting enabled. This means that whenever a second caller is calling, the phone starts blinking on a second line and you can switch between the two calls (just like a cell-phone). This also means that the phone does not return a “Busy“ signal for the second call if you have chosen that from the SIPGear Extension settings in the PBX. If you do not want secondary calls coming in while you are talking on the phone, you should disable this setting under Advanced by turning off the setting Call Waiting Indication.

Configuration for Extra Features

To take advantage of features supported by SIPGear IP-PBX follow these steps:

Recording Calls (320, 360, 370)

For one touch recording navigate to the Function Keys page in the phone. For the record button you should select DTMF as type and enter *1 in the Number filed. The actual command can be configured in SIPGear IP-PBX. You will find this under the Telephony -> Commands menu in SIPGear WebAdminsitrator.

Monitor Extensions and /or speed dial (320, 360, 370)

You can monitor other extensions in your organization by assigning one extension to each Function key on your snom phone. Select the Function Keys menu in your snom phone. For each extension you wish to monitor and use as a speed dial, select the Extension or BLF type and in the Number field follow this syntax:

<extnr>@<pbx-ip-address>

where <extnr> is the extension number you would like to monitor and <pbx-ip-address> is the IP-address of your SIPGear IP-PBX. To use the feature speed dial for external numbers like e.g. Cell phone numbers set the TYPE to Speed Dial and enter the phone number as it is under “Number”.l ( with prefix if you use that for external line)
