Firmware/Update/Automatic Update Service

To make it easier for our customers to keep the firmware versions on their snom 3x0 phones up-to-date, we have set up an automatic update service.

The following step-by-step specifications describe how to use this service.

Choosing a Setting Server URL

To utilize the Automatic Update Service, the telephone must be set to one of the following URLs as Setting Server URL:

Update Once to Current Official Firmware Release

Choose the following URL if you wish to update your phone to the current stable firmware release and then not update to new releases automatically:

http://provisioning.snom.com/release/update_once.php

This version is particularly suitable for updating larger numbers of phones to the current stable version and then deploying them in whatever settings (distributors, resellers).

Automated Update to Current Official Firmware Release

Choose the following URL if you wish to update your phone to the current stable firmware release and then have it keep updating automatically to new releases:

http://provisioning.snom.com/release/update.php 

This version will keep your phone firmware automatically up-to-date and you will not have to pay any further attention to it.

Automated Update to Current Beta Firmware Release

Choose the following URL if you wish to update your phone to the current Beta firmware and then have it keep updating automatically to new Beta versions:

http://provisioning.snom.com/beta/update.php

This version will please snom owners who put more emphasis on the newest features and less on stability.

The Setting Server URL can be set automatically or manually.

Automatic Setting of the Setting Server URL via DHCP

  1. Set your DHCP Server so that it will transmit the above Setting Server URL to your phone automatically.
  2. Set your phone back to factory values.
  3. Reboot the phone which will automatically begin to do the necessary updates one after the other, until it has updated to all current parts of the firmware.

Manual Setting of the Setting Server URL

Set your phone back to factory values

We strongly urge you to first set the phone back to factory values. This process is described, for example, in the FAQ. If you don't, the automatic update might not be successful.

Set the Setting Server URL via Web Interface

Please open the Advanced web page of the phone. In the Update section delete the contents of the field Setting URL and enter one of the values described in Setting Server URL. Please do not change any other values! Then save the new Setting Server URL by clicking on the Save button at the bottom of the page.

Reboot

Then reboot the phone which will automatically begin to do the necessary updates one after the other, until it has updated to all current parts of the firmware.
