Concerns

  • managable switches from HP, Cisco, Linksys etc.
  • using Spanning Tree Protocols e.g. STP (IEEE 802.1D), CDP, 802.1x etc.

Answer

  • Switches using Spanning Tree Protocols block all other network traffic for max. 30 sec. from/to attached network devices (not only snom phones)

General Workaround

  1. Disabling Spanning Tree Protocols resolves the issue.
  2. Using RSTP (Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol) will decrease the connection pause below 1 (one) second. Otherwise see 1)

Example Workarounds (reported by customers)

  • Cisco:
spanning-tree portfast
switchport mode trunk ->  spanning-tree portfast trunk
  • HP ProCurve Switch 5406zl (J8697A):
spanning-tree admin-edge-port
spanning-tree bpdu-filter
no cdp enable
int
   name snom360
   speed-duplex 100-full
   mdix-mode mdix
exit
