Answer

OCS stands for Microsoft® „Office Communications Server“. OCS evolved from LCS (LiveCommunications Server), which is basically an “internal” instant messaging Server for Enterprises (like MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, etc.). Beside Instant Messaging you have Presence information (is your colleague on his desk, out for lunch, busy, on a call, etc.). This presence information is integrated in various Microsoft® Products like Office (Outlook), Messenger, etc. This should allow you to see the status of your colleagues (whether they’re in a call, busy, away, etc.)
