Getting core dumps and crash debug logs for phone crashes
Core dumps and debug logs can be generated on snom phones beginning with Firmware Version 8 for snom 8xx, MP and 7x0 phones.
For snom 3x0 and PA1 phones, no core dump will be generated. Only the debug log in the support.htm page will be generated, but this log is a very important debug tool in case of a crash.
For snom 8xx, MP and 7x0
Enable core dumps
To enable core dumps, you must set the following settings to 'on':
In order to turn these settings on, you can either use provisioning or set them manually by entering the following links in your browser:
http://YOUR_PHONE_IP/settings.htm?settings=save&lcs_core_dump:on http://YOUR_PHONE_IP/settings.htm?settings=save&lid_core_dump:on
For example, if your phone's IP address is 192.168.168.198:
http://192.168.168.198/settings.htm?settings=save&lcs_core_dump:on http://192.168.168.198/settings.htm?settings=save&lid_core_dump:on
Let the phone crash on itself
The phone will only leave a core dump if it restarts on itself. If you notice that your phone has blocked, first wait 5-10 minutes, the phone should restart on its own.
If the phone does not restart on its own, you can restart it yourself after 10 minutes.
Get the core dump
After the phone has crashed, you will find the core dump at the following link:
http://YOUR_PHONE_IP/support.htm
For example, if your phone's IP address is 192.168.7.98:
http://192.168.7.98/support.htm
Click on 'core dump download' and save the core dump on your computer.
If you haven't opened a support request for the crash yet, please do so on http://www.snom.com/support/tips-on-using/. Since the core dump is too large to be sent as attachment to the support request, please place it online on a http/ftp server. In case you don't have access to such a server, please let us know and we will provide you one.
All the details from the support.htm page are important for debugging the problem, so please also copy the text content that you find on this page and send it along with your support request.
For snom 3x0 and PA1
For snom 3x0 phones and snom PA1, no core dump will be generated. Only the debug log in the support.htm page will be generated, but this log is a very important debug tool in case of a crash.
Let the phone crash on itself
The phone will only generate a crash debug log if it restarts on itself. If you notice that your phone has blocked, first wait 5-10 minutes, the phone should restart on its own.
If the phone does not restart on its own, you can restart it yourself after 10 minutes.
