Problem

How can I use different audio devices e.g. handset, speaker phone or headset on snom phones (snom100/105/190/200/220)?

Solution

The users of snom phones can either use the handset, speaker phone mode or headsets (RJ connector and Chinch connector on snom105/200/220, Chinch connector on snom100) for communication. The device handling explained in this FAQ is valid for firmware versions 2.04q and later.

You can select a headset device from the available options through the web interface of the phone in Settings/Miscellaneous/Audio. Once selected, this device will be your default headset for subsequent use until you select something else.

The use of all audio devices in different operation modes can be summarized as:

Making a call

You can use one of the following options to make a call from your snom phone:

  • Dialing a number and then picking up the handset (going off hook) always starts the call in handset mode.
  • Dialing a number and pressing SPKR starts the call in speaker phone mode.
  • Dialing a number and pressing OK (with no headset configured) starts the call in speaker phone mode.
  • Dialing a number and pressing OK (with headset configured) starts the call in headset mode.
  • Lifting the handset and then dialing a number and pressing OK starts the call in handset mode i.e. pressing OK does NOT switch to headset mode.

Receiving a call

To accept a call on your phone, you have these options:

  • Picking up the handset (going off hook) answers the call and puts the phone in handset mode.
  • Pressing SPKR answers the call in speaker phone mode.
  • Pressing OK (with no headset configured) answers the call in speaker phone mode.
  • Pressing OK (with headset configured) answers the call in headset mode.

During a call

Once a call has established, you can switch between different audio modes through the use of the SPKR key or with the help of the hook switch. This is explained as under:

  • In handset mode (handset is off hook)
    • Pressing SPKR (with no headset configured) changes to speaker phone mode.
    • Pressing SPKR (with headset configured) changes to headset mode.
  • In speaker phone mode (with handset off hook)
    • Pressing SPKR changes to

handset mode.

  • In speaker phone mode (with handset on hook)
    • Pressing SPKR (with no headset configured) does nothing.
    • Pressing SPKR (with headset configured) changes to headset mode.
    • Lifting handset changes to handset mode.
  • In headset mode (with handset off hook)
    • Pressing SPKR changes to speaker phone mode.
  • In headset mode (with handset on hook)
    • Pressing SPKR changes to speaker phone mode.
    • Lifting handset changes to handset mode.

Ending a call

Call termination is controlled in the following manner:

  • In handset mode: placing handset on hook ends the call.
  • In speaker phone mode: placing handset on hook does NOT end the call.
  • In headset mode: placing handset on hook does NOT end the call.
  • In any mode: pressing ESC/CANCEL, when not in a menu, ends the call.
